Critics: ‘Angry Birds Space’ is a blast

Launch of Angry Birds Space isn't just the rollout of the fourth game in the wildly popular pig-smashing series. It's a multimedia event.
NASA is celebrating alongside Angry Birds creator Rovio. Wal-Mart is selling a bazillion bits of Angry Birds merchandise. MTV is using the game to help fight online bullying. And in Seattle, they'returning the Space Needle into a 300-foot tall slingshot. Seriously.
But all that sizzle means nothing without the steak. Is Angry Birds Space worth buying? Or is it just more of the same from a franchise that has, at this point, been emulated (or downright copied) by dozens of other app makers?

The New iPad: Is It Worth The Money?

The latest iPad has just been unveiled. And the big question: Should you buy one?
Buy Or Wait?
The answer depends on whether you already own a tablet — and if so, which one?
If you've been waiting to buy an iPad
… and you have the cash?  No brainer — this is a good iteration of the tablet with lots of cool features, and Apple kept the price where it was on the original iPad. Don't expect that price to come down until at least September, and the discount might be just 10%.
If you have an iPad 1…
… and you're itching for an upgrade? You will see a dramatic increase in screen quality, processing power, and a thinner device. If you can afford it, an upgrade might be worth it.

iPad 3 Rumors: What we think we know about Apple’s next tablet

From 4G to a Retina display, rumors are swirling about Apple's next-generation tablet
The company that ignited the tablet craze nearly two years ago is poised to release the third generation of the iPad — a gadget most of us never knew we needed until one fateful day way back in April, 2010.

While most companies don't mess with (near) perfection, Apple is widely expected to launch the third evolution of its mobile computing wunderkind on Wednesday, March 7 on its home turf in San Francisco. But what should we expect from the iPad 3? Will Apple's third time around merely perfect a winning formula or will the company reinvent the wheel altogether? And what kind of climate will Apple's much buzzed-about tablet find itself in?

Microsoft unveils Windows 8 for public test

Microsoft Corp unveils the first widely available test version of Windows 8 on Wednesday, giving the public the first chance to try out the slick, new-look operating system it hopes will restore the company's fading tech supremacy.
Windows 8, as the first Microsoft operating system compatible with low-power microprocessors designed by ARM Holdings Plc , will run on tablets as well as desktops and laptops.
"The operating system has begun to be seen as largely irrelevant," said Sid Parakh, an analyst at fund firm McAdams Wright Ragen, which holds Microsoft shares. "This is the release that will have to prove its relevance all over again."
Tablets and smartphones and cloud computing have made Bill Gates' vision of "a computer on every desk and in every home" seem quaint, and Apple Inc and Google Inc and Amazon.com now set the agenda for the computing industry.

Sony sells 1.2 million PlayStation Vitas

The PlayStation Vita seems to be off to a good start.
Sony announced Tuesday that it has sold over 1.2 million units of the handheld gaming system worldwide so far, though it didn't break out how many of those were sold in the U.S.
The Vita hit stores in Japan late last year, but Sony waited a couple of months before rolling it out in America and Europe. Still, the company says the numbers are stronger than it was expecting.
More importantly, Sony clarified that the sales numbers were actual sell-through to consumers, rather than just how many units it had shipped to stores (a commonly used practice which sometimes makes sales appear stronger than they really are).

Aakash vs BSNL's tablet

Last year, DataWind in association with the Government of India came out with a 7 inch Android tablet for students. Named Aakash, the tablet costs Rs 2,999 in the market; while its subsidised rate is just Rs 2,250.

Aakash, which was hailed as the cheapest tablet in the world, was projected as revolutionary and was talked about the world over. In fact, its makers got lakhs of preorders.

Before the euphoria could die down, though, public sector telecom operator BSNL has come out with an extremely low cost tablet of its own. Manufactured by Noida based Pantel Technologies, the Penta IS701R tablet has WiFi and is priced at Rs 3,499.

Now we have two tablets in the same category - at around Rs 3,000. Here we try to compare the Aakash and BSNL tablets in terms of availability, price, specifications and value additions.

6 great smartphones that won’t cost you one single penny

Smartphones are here to stay, and it's no surprise why. They connect us to Facebook, help us find directions to the office, take pictures, and can even let us connect our laptops to the internet from the side of the road. But they're just so darned expensive... or so you think.

You don't need to spend $300 or more just to get a great phone. We've put together a list of six great free smartphone options — they won't cost you anything but your signature (and, of course, a new contract). These phones aren't one-day-only deals, and they aren't refurbished models that someone's already had their fingerprints all over. They're absolutely free, absolutely new phones.
You don't need to know somebody who knows somebody to get these phones for free, but you do need to buy these online. Most carriers have special, online-only pricing. And if you're upgrading an old phone, be careful. Some carriers will charge you an upgrade fee if you're still under an old contract. What fun is a free phone if you have to pay a fee to get it?

2012 Fisker Karma

This is the Fisker Karma, a $100,000 electric sedan with a backup gasoline engine and the claim on a $529 million government loan meant to build the future of eco-friendly transportation. It may need some spiritual balance to get there.
The brainchild of designer Henrik Fisker, the Karma arrives after years of delays — and a maelstrom of politics and publicity, especially over the U.S. Department of Energy loan meant to fund the next car from Fisker. The company hosted several dozen journalists in Beverly Hills this week, days after laying off a few dozen workers when the Energy department halted the loan over Fisker's missed sales targets.
At least in front of reporters, Henrik Fisker is nothing but determined about the Karma and the future of the company with his name on it. Admitting the company missed the milestones for the rest of the Energy loan, Fisker says the company has 1,500 Karmas built, and delivering 50-some a day to waiting customers. Despite early defects that forced Fisker to issue a recall, along with a personal apology, Fisker still boasts that no other company that took the federal loans — Ford, Nissan and Tesla — has produced an all-new model as Fisker has.
